[Commlist] Art-Based Research Methods Training

Tue May 26 14:40:36 GMT 2026

We’re pleased to announce that we will be running an online course on arts‑based research methods on: 2nd June 2026.

You can find full details here: https://www.surrey.ac.uk/cpd-and-short-courses/arts-based-research-methods-online

This course is part of the University of Surrey’s Day Courses in Social Research.

The session will explore the role of art as a qualitative research method. We will discuss the theoretical foundations of arts‑based approaches, as well as the benefits and challenges of using art within research design.

We will also consider the practical aspects of incorporating arts‑based methods, how they can complement other methodological approaches, and the types of groups and settings where they may be particularly effective. In addition, the course will address key ethical considerations and examine how arts‑based methods can shape relationships between researchers and participants.

We encourage anyone with an interest in arts‑based research including ECRs, academics, and practitioners to join us.
