The Research Group GECA (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) announces
the call for papers for the XIV International GECA Conference, titled
/Politics of Pop/. The conference will take place on 7 and 8 October
2026 in Madrid, and participation is free of charge. The event aims to
explore the political dimensions of popular culture from
interdisciplinary perspectives, and scholars from Communication and
Media Studies are explicitly welcome to participate.
The conference invites proposals that examine how popular culture
articulates, reflects or challenges social, cultural and political
dynamics. Topics may include, but are not limited to:
– Popular culture, media industries and power
– Identities, representation and pop culture
– Sound, music and audiovisual media
– Cinema and series
– Fan cultures and participatory practices
– Digital environments and platform cultures
– Memory, affect and cultural narratives
– Aesthetic, narrative or technological dimensions of pop phenomena
The conference will include keynote lectures, thematic panels and space
for early-career researchers. English and Spanish contributions are welcome.
*Submission guidelines:*
– Abstracts: 500 words
– Short bio: 250 words
– Deadline for submission: 15 June 2026
– Notification of acceptance: 25 June 2026
– No payment from authors will be required at any stage
