The Multiplayer Mentorship Program

** What? **
The Canadian Game Studies Association (CGSA) is excited to announce its latest initiative. Professors, students, and industry experts working on video games teamed up across 10 weeks to learn and teach each other new skills - we call this "mutual mentorship" - and they are now ready to share their outputs!

** When and Where? **
Every Tuesday throughout May 2026, at 12-1pm, joinable with Zoom link at https://linktr.ee/cagamestudies <https://linktr.ee/cagamestudies>

Agata, an Assistant Professor at the Catholic University of Lublin (Poland), and Charlotte, a PhD candidate at the Université de Montréal (Canada), created a game about duck butts, finished a book proposal, and bonded over their experiences of being queer and scholars living with disability.

May 12th, 12-1pm ET

Nora, a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia (Canada), and Caighlan, an independent scholar, worked at sonic speed over 10 weeks to produce 3 abstracts, 2 presentations, 1 paper, and a lifelong friendship. Come experience the buzz of an electric academic duo!

Slimes & Goo: Thinking About, Making, & Embracing "Cozy Horror"
Aparajita Bhandari & Brandon Blackburn
May 19th, 12-1pm ET

Aparajita is an Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo (Canada), and Brandon is a PhD candidate at the University of California, Irvine (United States). Their talk discusses the role of slimes, goos, and on-screen stickiness in games with a Let's Play of Slime Rancher 2 in the background!

Three's a Party: Reflections on Mentorship Within & Across Game Studies
Marc Ouelette, Kenzie Gordon, & Richy Srirachanikorn
May 26th, 12-1pm ET

"It is dangerous to go alone, here, take this!". Marc is an Associate Professor in English at Old Dominion University (United States), Kenzie is a PhD candidate in Media & Cultural Studies at the University of Alberta (Canada), and Richy is a PhD candidate in Sociology at Concordia University (Canada). Join them as they reflect on, offer guidance, and connect over their paths into game studies; all three roads were built on the bedrock of community and collaboration.
