[Commlist] CFP: Media and Challenges of the Modern Society 2026

The Department of Communications and Journalism, Faculty of Philosophy,
University of Niš, invites submissions for the fifth international
scientific conference /Media and Challenges of the Modern Society 2026/,
to be held on May 29, 2026, in a hybrid format (on-site and online).
The plenary lecture, /“Who Safeguards Media Ethics? Self-Regulation as a
Practice of Professional Responsibility,”/ will be delivered by Dr
Sandra Sprudzāne (Riga Technical University, Rezekne Academy; Public
Service Mass Media Council).
This year’s conference focuses on the importance of media
self-regulation, with a special session titled:
*“The Modernity of Media Self-Regulation in Europe.”*
We welcome contributions addressing, but not limited to, the following
topics:

Public interest and self-regulation in a commercialized media
environment

Media and digital literacy in the 21st century

Legal regulation and self-regulation: complementarity and conflict

Artificial intelligence and the media
*
Changing journalistic practices under the influence of AI

*
Advertising in the post-truth era
*
Social networks and digital platforms as (un)regulated media actors
*
Media and privacy in the digital sphere
*
Security in the digital space
*
Philosophy and the media
*
Aesthetics, hypermedia, and the hyperconsumer
*Submission guidelines:*
Abstracts (max. 250 words) should include:

*
Title of the paper
*
Up to 5 keywords
*Submission deadline:* April 1, 2026
*Notification of acceptance:* April 15, 2026

*Publication opportunities:*
Selected papers will be published in a special issue of the /Applied
Media Studies Journal/ on “The Modernity of Media Self-Regulation in
Europe.” Other accepted papers may be published in additional issues. A
book of abstracts (ISBN) will also be published.
Full paper submission deadline: September 15, 2026
*Registration fee:* 6000 RSD / 50 EUR
(Optional conference dinner: 3600 RSD / 30 EUR)
