This work analyses the cinematographic work of Belgian director Chantal 
Akerman, attempting to answer the question: how does Akerman's cinema 
reach the viewer's body, activating something that did not exist before 
confronting what is shown? Drawing on aesthetics, film studies and 
contemporary feminist film theory, the book proposes an encounter with 
the ritual dimension of cinema and intimacy, capable of connecting with 
the audience's bodily experience. The essay thus establishes a 
correspondence between Akerman's work and that of filmmakers who work 
from a personal perspective, hybridising the experimental, the 
documentary and fiction.
