Learn how to apply key CDA theories, concepts and methods to your research
project. Sessions on key ideas in CDA and how to apply them to your work -
whether your research is primarily a discourse analytical one, or discourse
analysis is a supplementary to your project. Group discussion and advice
tailored to your research project. Hands-on analysis of texts and data.



The academic experts for the workshop are:

Professor Tom Bartlett, University of Glasgow

Dr Michael Farrelly, Discourse Academy

Dr Michael Kranert, University of Southampton

Dr Jane Mulderrig, University of Sheffield



Our approach is to focus on your research project. The academic experts will
introduce key ideas and work with you on applying them in your work.

Build your network of peers who are also using CDA in their research

Extend your network of established experts in CDA

Work through your methods bring CDA to bear on a complex, discipline spanning
research project

Present and get feedback on your work (if you are at a stage where you are
ready to do so)



Schedule (subject to amendment)
Our aim is for you to make tangible progress in how to use CDA in your
research project. Our emphasis in each session, therefore, will be on you
working through how the ideas we present might be integrated into your work.

Day 1
Understanding your research project

Corpus analysis for CDA

Discourse & context - integrating CDA theories of discourse with your work

Analysing text & discourse: social actors, intertextuality, meaning
relations, metaphor



Day 2
Positive discourse analysis

Genre & social practices

[Optional] Project presentations & feedback



Pre-event
You will also be able to join the online discussion group for this event.

The online discussion group will:

Give you the opportunity to introduce your research project in advance ofthe
workshop;

Let you see what your fellow attendees are working on and start to make
connections with each other;

Discuss practical issues around arrival, meeting up in Sheffield, planning
accommodation etc.



Tickets include:

Attendance at the in-person event in Sheffield

Tea, coffee, light snacks and lunch Thursday & Friday
