DIGITAL HERITAGE
Questions and cases studies of technologies and medias such as film,
laser scanning, VR and data mapping in the heritage sector.
-
A conference strand seeking to engage with the varied ways in which we
use technologies and media platforms in a heritage context broadly
understood. It is open to exploring a variety of themes, including but
not limited to:
VR simulations of ancient buildings, mobile apps and public engagement,
virtual museology and exhibitions, digital heritage modelling of
historic sites, laser scanning, digital cataloguing, data mapping,
projection mapping, and more.
Set in the historic city of Istanbul, the call uses a series of projects
in the host city as examples of the type of issues to be raised.
Historically seen as the meeting point of Europe and Asia, Istanbul was
an imperial centre for the Byzantine, Roman and Ottoman Empires. One of
the most visited cities in the world, it was European Capital of Culture
in 2010. With the centre of the city classified a UNESCO World Heritage
Site in its own right, it boasts iconic examples of both art and
architecture, the Hagia Sophia and the Grand Bazaar being just two of
the most famous examples. Home to cutting edge design, electronic art,
modern architecture and digital heritage, it is also seen as a hub of
contemporary culture.
