[Commlist] CFP: Türkiye and the EU: Media representations

Sat Dec 13 18:58:39 GMT 2025

*CFP for a Workshop: *
*[TÜRKİYE AND THE EU: MEDIA REPRESENTATIONS]
*
13 May 2026, Anadolu University, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Eskişehir/TÜRKİYE

Türkiye and the European Union have a longstanding relationship that has evolved since the early stages of European integration. This relationship cannot be reduced to the simple question of “membership or not,” nor can it be explained solely through temporary political agendas. Beyond its political dimension, the relationship also encompasses economic, cultural, and geographical aspects, which are frequently reflected in media representations.

This workshop aims to foster an academic environment in which media representations of Türkiye–EU relations are critically examined through research presentations and roundtable sessions. The event will bring together scholars from journalism studies, political science, international relations and European studies to share their research findings.

The main themes of the workshop include:
• Enhancing news coverage of Türkiye–EU relations
• Digitalisation and the evolving media landscape surrounding Türkiye–EU relations
• Historical and contemporary media representations of Türkiye–EU relations
• Media representations of the EU
• Political journalism and AI

The workshop is not limited to the themes listed above. Abstracts addressing any topic related to the EU and its media coverage are welcome for submission. Notification emails will be sent to all applicants after the abstracts have been evaluated through a rigorous blind peer-review process. The workshop will be a full-day event held on 13 May 2026 at Anadolu University, Faculty of Communication Sciences.

The workshop will be organised as part of the JOIN! project, a Jean Monnet Module hosted at Anadolu University (Project number: 101126468), with support from the European Union. The event is open to the public, and there is no participation fee for either presenters or attendees.

The workshop will lead to an edited volume examining the EU, Türkiye, media coverage, and journalistic practices. The book will serve as a valuable resource for journalism students undertaking courses in EU journalism and political reporting.
