The Film Program at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington

courses with creative practice assignments?
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently
recruiting a Pūkenga - Lecturer in Film to join Te Kura Kōmanawa -
School of Arts and Media on a permanent, full-time basis from mid-2026.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an award-winning Film
programme with a focus on critical studies and production.
Key responsibilities:
Teach critical/creative courses at undergraduate and postgraduate
levels.
Design and deliver academic courses with creative practice assignments.
Teaching large undergraduate courses.
Supervise postgraduate students.
Contribute to programme and school committees.
Contribute to the University’s and programme’s culture of public
and community engagement.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
You will have the expertise and passion to supervise post-graduate
research students and join the community of scholars and practitioners
in our highly collegial, growing, and vibrant film programme.
Key requirements:
A PhD in film or related subject.
A record of academic publication.
Proven ability to design and deliver academic courses with creative
practice assignments.
Ideally, experience teaching large introductory classes.
Ability to contribute productively to fulfilling the University’s
Treaty of Waitangi obligations.
High quality and critically reflective teaching practice in film.
We are particularly interested in scholars who have experience teaching
production courses and/or research specialisation in Māori and/or
Pasifika film.
