[Commlist] Reworking the Eastern European Past through Audiovisual Archival Practices
Mon Dec 08 14:11:12 GMT 2025
We are pleased to announce the publication of a new special issue of
the/Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television/, titled/*Reworking
the Eastern European Past through Audiovisual Archival Practices*/:
https://www.tandfonline.com/toc/chjf20/45/4?nav=tocList
The collection brings together contributions that reconsider the role of
audiovisual archives in shaping cultural memory and historiography
across Eastern Europe. The articles discuss archiving as a dynamic and
contested process shaped by material fragility, individual agency and
institutional shortcomings. Together, they render visible the
semi-peripheral conditions, epistemic challenges and creative
interventions shaping the study of the region’s audiovisual heritage.
We are grateful to all our contributors for their engaged and thoughtful
work, and IAMHIST for their support.
This special issue represents a meaningful step toward rethinking film
and media history in Eastern Europe by foregrounding the labour,
subjectivities and material conditions that underpin archival practice.
