############################################
We invite submissions for the 18th International Conference on
Interactive Digital Storytelling (ICIDS 2025), the premier venue for
research and creative work in interactive narrative. This year's
conference will be held in Malta, a crossroads of cultures and a hub for
AI innovation, providing an inspiring backdrop for our theme:
Kaleidoscopic Machines.
This theme reflects the evolving interplay between generative AI and
human creativity in crafting interactive digital narratives (IDNs).
Inspired by Janet Murray’s concept of the "kaleidoscopic view" of IDN
research, we seek to explore how AI and human authorship converge to
create multifaceted narrative experiences.
Areas of Interest:
We welcome submissions in the following areas, interpreted broadly:
+ Theory, History, and Foundations: Fundamental theoretical aspects of
interactive digital storytelling, including narrative structures and
interactivity, with appreciation for historical context.
+ Methods and Tools: Research on frameworks, procedures, and pipelines
that support the analysis and creation of IDNs, including innovative
tools and methodologies.
+ Applications and Case Studies: Practical explorations of IDNs in
various contexts, such as education, virtual worlds, games, and
performances, focusing on implementation and audience engagement.
+ Social, Cultural, and Critical Perspectives: Analyses of the
sociocultural implications and ethical dimensions of IDNs, including
representation, accessibility, and authorship issues.
