Thematic editors: Cláudia Henriques (University of Minho, Portugal) e
Teresa Costa Alves (University of Minho, Portugal)
In this thematic section, the Radio and Sound Media Working Group of the
Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences (Sopcom) invites
researchers to present proposals that promote critical reflection on the
place of sound in radio and other sound media and, in particular, the
challenges faced by sound practices in the face of contemporary
technological innovations. The aim is to create a broad space for debate
and exchange of knowledge that, with eyes (and ears) set on the future,
does not forget history or the urgency of caring for the memory of sounds.
Topics of interest for this section include, but are not limited to:
* The role of AI in the creation of sound objects: ethical, aesthetic
and epistemological implications of algorithmic intervention in the
sound universe
* Social networks as spaces for the circulation, appropriation and
resignification of sounds
* The preservation of sound memory: technical, methodological,
curatorial and access challenges
* Radio and its sound identity: tradition, contemporary contexts and
future challenges
* The place of sound in the practice of journalism and in the creation
of informative content
* Podcasts and their potential as a means of archiving, disseminating
and preserving individual and collective discourses
* Radio, sound and entertainment
* Sound art and acoustic heritage: experimental, performative and
aesthetic practices
* Sound in the construction of the history of radio and sound media
* Training, skills and the profile of professionals in the digital
sound context
All papers are subject to a double-blind peer review process. There are
no associated publication fees (article processing fees or APCs).
The works in the thematic section will be published between January and
