Name of Institution: Emerson College
Job title: Dean, Emerson Los Angeles Campus
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Emerson College invites applications and nominations for the position of
Dean, Emerson Los Angeles Campus
<https://emerson.edu/emerson-los-angeles> (“ELA”).
Reporting to Emerson’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost,
the Dean of ELA will provide vision and strategic direction for the
programs, services, and operations of the campus. Working closely with
the college’s leadership in Boston—including school deans, vice
presidents, the provost, and the president—the Dean of ELA identifies
and cultivates meaningful industry partnerships and opportunities to
leverage Emerson’s distinctive offerings to develop impactful
experiential learning and professional development opportunities in
the fields of entertainment, media production, communications,
journalism, public relations, marketing, publishing, performing arts,
and more.
Since 1986, Emerson College has offered a semester-long program in Los
Angeles built around experiential learning. ELA’s current facility, a
state-of-the-art center that opened in 2014, is a self-contained campus
and serves as Emerson's home on the West Coast. The LEED-certified,
100,000 sq ft, 10-story building, located in central Hollywood’s
historic studio district, can house over 200 students in suite-style
accommodations and offers interactive classrooms, performance and
rehearsal studios with dance floors and professional lighting, high-tech
computer labs, study areas, a theater-style screening room, an
industry-standard audio mixing suite, a multi-purpose event space, and a
long-distance learning center. The building also provides adult housing
for residential-life staff, as well as for one visiting faculty member
or other guest for a residential program.
The Dean will support and bolster Emerson’s Los Angeles location as a
hub for students, alumni, parents, faculty, partners, donors, and
visitors that both expresses the best of Emerson and advances its reach
and impact. ELA is a key element of Emerson’s newly published strategic
plan, Extraordinary Emerson 2030 <https://extraordinary.emerson.edu/>.
The Dean of ELA position is a 100% administrative role that requires a
majority onsite, in-person presence. Remote or partially hybrid work
arrangements may be possible for a limited percentage of work time.
Regular travel to Boston is expected.
