Thu Apr 10 07:55:32 GMT 2025

CFP : *Journalism and Platforms in the Age of Generative AI Conference*, November 26-28, University of Toulouse (France)

Abstract due date : June 1st

The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) marks a major turning point in the history of journalism and digital platforms. Offering unprecedented possibilities for automation, data analysis, content creation and distribution, AI is transforming journalistic practices, re-examining media business models and the relationship between platforms and their users. This technological evolution comes with considerable challenges. The growing dependence of media on infrastructures controlled by tech giants such as Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Meta, and Google raises concerns about journalistic autonomy and the diversity of information. The growing use of generative AI, while promising, raises ethical and practical questions about the reliability of information, intellectual property, and the transformation of the journalism profession. This conference aims to bring together researchers to discuss issues related to the intersection of journalism, platforms, and AI. The objective is to critically analyze the opportunities and risks associated with this digital transformation, explore alternative models, and propose avenues for the future of information.

Emerging or exploratory research and theoretical contributions are welcome. The conference will be held mainly in French, but proposals in English are also welcome.

Topics may include :

*Journalistic Autonomy and Platform Dependence: analyzing the challenges posed by media dependence on AI infrastructures and tools developed by tech giants. *Generative AI and Journalistic Ethics: examining the impact of generative AI on fundamental principles of journalism, such as fact-checking, objectivity, and accountability. *Transformation of Journalism: exploring changes that AI is bringing about in the professional practices of journalists. *Combating Disinformation and Information Manipulation: analyzing the role of AI in battling disinformation and spreading it. *Governance of AI in the Media: examining the legal, ethical, and political frameworks necessary to ensure the responsible development of AI in the media sector.
