[Commlist] CfP - HICSS-59 Minitrack on Dark Sides and Criminal Uses of Digital and Intelligent Technologies

Minitrack "Dark Sides and Criminal Uses of Digital and Intelligent Technologies," being part of the upcoming Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-59), to be held January 6–9, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Resort, Maui, Hawaii.

This minitrack explores the negative consequences of digitalization and artificial intelligence at the individual, organizational, and societal levels. We welcome theoretical, empirical, and technical contributions examining topics such as:

Algorithmic bias, datafication, and fairness
Addictive and impulsive technology use
Cyberviolence, cybercrime, and digital deviance
Misinformation, deepfakes, and ethical challenges of generative AI
Psychological effects of digital technologies, including technostress
Security breaches, phishing, ransomware, and online scams
Policy and regulatory implications

The co-chairs (Hamed Qahri-Saremi, Ofir Turel, Isaac Vaghefi, Piotr Siuda) foster critical reflection and discussion about the risks posed by digital and intelligent technologies, as well as strategies and interventions to mitigate these dark sides.

Submission system opens: April 15, 2025
Submission deadline: June 15, 2025 (11:59 PM HST)
Notification of acceptance: August 17, 2025
Final paper deadline: September 22, 2025
Author registration deadline: October 1, 2025
