PhD Position available at the Center for Information, Communication 
Technologies & Society (ICT&S), Department of Communication Studies, 
University of Salzburg.

We welcome any research topic that fits with the scope of our unit, 
including but not limited to the research profile of supervisor Thomas 
Steinmaurer <https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomas-steinmaurer-17249619/>. 
Current research at the center includes: social media and 
democratisation, conspiracy theories online, ICTs and sustainability/ 
climate change, digitalisation processes and societal change.

Knowledge of German is not required; applications can be sent in

📌 Position Details:
🔹 Start: As soon as possible
🔹 Duration: 4 years
🔹 Workload: 30 hours per week
🔹 Salary: €2,786.10 gross/month (14× per year, possible increase based 
on experience)

🎓 What You Bring:
✅ Master’s degree in Communication Studies or related Social Sciences
✅ Interest in digital communication & societal transformation
✅ Experience with empirical methods & academic writing
✅ Strong communication skills, teamwork & independent work ethic

💡 Your Responsibilities:
📚 Research & teaching support in the field of digital communication & 
society
📝 Writing & publishing a PhD dissertation
📢 Independent teaching (2 hours per week) from the second year onward
