This is the final call for papers for the 18th European Conference on Game Based Learning (ECGBL 2024) hosted by Aarhus University, Denmark on 3 - 4th October 2024.



This call will close on 13th March 2024.



The way in which education and training is delivered has changed considerably with the development of Game-Based Learning (GBL). The European Conference on Game-Based Learning offers an opportunity for scholars and practitioners interested in the issues related to GBL to share their thinking and research findings. The conference committee welcomes contributions using a range of scholarly approaches.

In addition to the main conference topics, the advisory group invites submissions to the following confirmed mini tracks:



Educational Non-Digital Games
Games Promoting Critical Thinking, Scientific Communication and Literacy in STEM
Educational Escape Rooms
Citizen Science Games
Game-based learning for lifelong learning

Publication opportunities

Papers accepted for the conference will be published in the conference proceedings, subject to author registration and payment. The ECGBL conference proceedings are published with an ISBN and ISSN and are submitted for indexing to a number of bodies, including Thomson ISI WoS and Elsevier Scopus. Papers that have been presented at the conference will also be considered for further development and publication in a number of international journals.


The 12th International Educational Game Competition will once again be held alongside the conference in 2024. If you have developed an educational game, you would like to showcase please consider submitting it to this competition. ECGBL 2024 will primarily be a physical conference in Denmark but with an option to present online for those unable to travel to the conference.
