*The team *

The School of Social Sciences offers a rich learning and research environment spanning social sciences in Australia and Asia. As well as undergraduate and postgraduate programs, the School supports an active research program.

Media and Communication has been taught at UWA since 2002, currently offering an undergraduate major in Communication and Media Studies and a postgraduate MA program in Strategic Communication. The major is among the largest in the Bachelor of Arts. Staff in the discipline are dedicated to guiding our students to become thoughtful, responsible and impactful communicators. We are proudly committed to research-enriched pedagogy and critical reflection on diverse forms of media and communication practice. These positions afford successful applicants the opportunity to make significant teaching and curriculum contributions to the discipline and the learning experience of students.

*About the opportunity *

The School of Social Sciences is seeking to appoint three media and communication academics in one or more of the following fields:

  * Strategic Communication and Journalism
  * Digital Storytelling and Media Production
  * Emerging Media Technologies and Cultures
In this teaching focused role, you will undertake teaching, unit coordination, student supervision and research in collaboration with colleagues and under the direction of the Head of the School of Social Sciences. Your responsibilities will include teaching up to 4 units per year in undergraduate media and communication studies and/ or the postgraduate program in strategic communications. You will also undertake research activities to support the School’s expertise in Media and Communication, and strengthen the University’s engagement with the community, including media and communication professions.

*To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate: *

  * Demonstrated ability to teach and supervise across at least two of
    the below areas, with a minimum three years’ experience in the
    development, coordination, and delivery of innovative and effective
    learning and teaching::
      o Strategic communication
      o Journalism
      o Digital storytelling
      o Media Production
      o Emerging media technologies
o Media cultures * Dedication to quality teaching through research enriched pedagogy.
  * Demonstrated ability and willingness to teach practical components
    and deliver real-world learning experiences to students.
  * Demonstrated ability to design innovative curriculum and assessment
    that supports excellence in learning and student success in the
    media and communication industries.
  * Demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching practices to extend
    equality of opportunity for learners from a diverse background.

Demonstrated ability to engage and effectively communicate with external partners, including relevant sections of the community, professional bodies, government departments and other external organisations.

The applicant must be motivated to contribute to the academic and collegiate environment of the School and pursue a research and teaching program that engages with industry and government partners.

Preference will be given to candidates who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

  * Employer contribution to superannuation is 17% of salary
  * Recreation leave of 20 working days per annum
  * Long Service Leave after 10 years
