There’s a vacancy for a Professor in Digital Media at Lancaster
University which may interest some of you. It’s based in the Sociology
Department which runs successful BA, MA and PhD programmes in Media &
Cultural Studies and has a vibrant research culture.

We welcome applicants with a proven record in the social study of
digital media at the global scale. We are particularly interested in
applicants who are working at the intersection of social understandings
of new media technologies, including video gaming, social media
platforms and/or mobile media, and who are able to contribute to the
department’s strategic focus upon inequalities.
You will contribute to the intellectual life of the department and the
wider university through building on an established international
research profile and through excellence in teaching. Candidates will
typically have an excellent profile of high-quality books and journal
articles, a track-record of securing external funding and engagement
with international research networks. You must have a PhD in a relevant
discipline and will be expected to contribute to its interdisciplinary
research centres, for example, the Centre for Science Studies; the
Centre for Alternatives for Social and Economic Inequalities and/or the
Centre for Gender Studies.
The department is a world-renowned hub of interdisciplinary research and
teaching. It is known for its collegiality and its commitment to
impactful and creative research, teaching and public engagement. It is
an internationally-recognised centre of research and teaching excellence
in media and cultural studies, social work and sociology. In the 2021
Research Excellence Framework it was ranked 6^th and is ranked 64^th
of sociology departments in the QS World University rankings. The
department takes very seriously its responsibility to help make the
world a better place through our research, and to help transform the
lives of our students. Hence, it focuses upon research and teaching
activity that is publicly engaged and makes a positive impact on society.
The post will be based in Lancaster, and the successful candidate will
be expected to be able to commute to the Bailrigg campus.
