[Commlist] Job vacancy - Games studies, University of Bergen

There is a job opening for a tenured associate professor specializing in 
Game Studies at the University of Bergen’s Digital Culture program – 
application deadline is 24^th March 2023. In Norway associate professor 
(/førsteamanuensis/) is an entry level but permanent position, and we 
are especially hoping early career researchers will apply. If you have a 
PhD focused on digital games from a discipline such as Media studies, 
Communication studies, Digital Culture or related disciplines, and 
either live in Norway or are willing to move here, please apply!!

We are launching a Center of Research Excellence, the Center for Digital 
Narrative, in August 2023, with funding for 10 years, and the person who 
is hired will be affiliated with the Center. We’ll have a dedicated 
building for the Center, and you’ll be part of a lively, supportive and 
innovative research environment with graduate students, postdocs, senior 
scholars and lots of guest researchers and research events.

This is a permanent position, with equal weight on teaching and 
research.. Teaching and most research-related meetings are in English, 
but if you’re hired and you don’t speak Norwegian or another 
Scandinavian language, you’ll need to take language classes (free 
classes provided by the university) and within two years of starting the 
job, you’ll need to have basic Norwegian skills – good enough to 
participate in meetings that are in Norwegian and give feedback to 
students who write in Norwegian.

is fixed. In addition to the salary you’ll be a member of the Norwegian 
welfare system with universal health care, heavily subsidized high 
quality child care, free tuition, solid parental leave for both parents 
and more. As an associate professor you can apply for promotion to full 
professor on your own schedule.
