[Commlist] Jeunesse - Call for Editors

Thu Jul 15 21:51:33 GMT 2021

*DEADLINE: August 1, 2021*

/Jeunesse: Young People, Texts, Cultures/ is a scholar-led, interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, bilingual academic journal housed at the University of Winnipeg. The mandate of the journal is to publish research on and to provide a forum for discussion about cultural productions for, by, and about young people.

The journal is currently looking for editors who work in one or more of the following areas at the intersection of the cultures of young people:

  * critical race studies
  * Indigenous studies
  * queer studies
  * critical pedagogy
  * sociology
  * cultural theory
  * digital texts
  * film and television

Duties and responsibilities include finding peer reviewers, assessing peer-review reports, preparing reports for the editorial board, and substantive editing of accepted articles. At /Jeunesse/, substantive editing includes detailed assessment of the logic of the argument and comments on stylistic felicity. Editors meet virtually approximately 6 times per year, and work collaboratively to make decisions on article acceptances, overall design, and policies/best practices for the journal. Editors will work remotely, via e-mail and video meeting platforms such as Zoom.

While the positions are unpaid, there are considerable benefits to working as an editor of /Jeunesse/: editors help to shape the field of studies in young people’s texts and cultures internationally and to mentor emerging scholars, and will be offered the opportunity to participate in planning future directions of the journal. In addition, editors are entitled to request reference letters to aid in promotion and tenure from the Lead Editor. All editors will receive a free print and online subscription to the journal.

Applicants should provide a statement of interest that outlines why they would like be an editor of /Jeunesse/, as well as an account of previous editing experience (if any) and a short curriculum vitae that showcases other relevant scholarly activities. Statements should clearly indicate that applicants are familiar with the journal.

We particularly welcome applications from scholars who identify as queer, trans, Black, Indigenous, and people of colour from Canada, mainland Europe, Asia, Africa, and Central and South America. The ability to read and edit in French would be an asset.

Please send your applications and any inquiries to the Managing Editor, Lauren Bosc ((l.bosc /at/ uwinnipeg.ca) <mailto:(l.bosc /at/ uwinnipeg.ca)>).
