Lecturer in Contemporary Theatre and Digital Practices
The role

The Department of Theatre is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Contemporary Theatre and Digital Practices as part of the School of Arts’ digital arts growth strategy and to develop and expand digital practice offerings in Theatre. The new role will augment the digital teaching and research expertise in the Department. The post will be a full-time, open-ended contract to commence in September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The School of Arts and Department of Theatre have an excellent research reputation, and Theatre is thriving, fast-growing, highly creative and has a very strong teaching ethos. It is located in the Wickham Building, which boasts two flexible, well-equipped studio theatres, rehearsal rooms, design and costume workshops, and lecture and seminar rooms. We share the building with the Theatre Collection, a designated museum and archive of theatre and performance with over 140 named collections and archives. Staff in the Department have expertise in an array of genres, histories, and practices, including theatre history, historic and contemporary performance practices, audience studies, performance studies, dramaturgy and adaptation.

What will you be doing?

You will contribute to the development of theatre and digital practices in teaching and research, disseminating your research through publication, live or online presentation and/or performance and submit grants for research funding. You will contribute to and develop the Department’s teaching at all levels, developing new course units in digital theatres and contributing your digital expertise to augment existing courses. You will be expected to provide academic and pastoral support and guidance to students and to contribute to the administrative functioning of the department as appropriate.

You should apply if

You have a PhD in Theatre involving digital practices/performance, or immersive theatre/interactive theatres, or a related digital field and have, or are developing, a strong track record of research in digital practices, eg, digital and mediated theatre, performance and the digital, immersive theatres, applied or participatory theatre and the digital. You have experience in teaching in the HE sector, and experience, or capacity for designing and leading units and programmes. You are an excellent, collaborative team player.
