We are hiring! Applications are now open for a postdoctoral position contributing to a research project that aims to enhance the role that comics can play in public health messaging through an analysis of the content, circulation patterns and social media engagement of webcomics about COVID-19. The ideal candidates should demonstrate skills working with social media or other online data and performing content analysis either quantitatively or qualitatively. This is a UKRI/AHRC funded project. The majority of the work for this project can be done remotely.

The Faculty of Media and Communication is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to undertake a significant role in the delivery of a new multidisciplinary project. The Faculty of Media and Communication at Bournemouth University is one of the largest of its kind in the world and has a global reputation for combining research and teaching practice. The Department of Communication & Journalism offers outstanding education and research on communication, marketing communication and journalism, including to consider the role of the audience and how audiences engage with media content. We engage in industry-leading work in digital and web-based communication that drives industry standards by experimenting with new forms, practices and content.

This postdoctoral post is based in the Department of Communication and Journalism and provides an opportunity for a researcher to undertake independent work and to join our research team, collaborating on our UKRI/AHRC COVID-19 Rapid Response project that aims to enhance the role that comics can play in public health messaging. It is led by Dr. Anna Feigenbaum as its Principal Investigator in collaboration with Professor Julian McDougall, Dr. Sam Goodman, Dr. William Proctor and research technician Alexandra Alberda, all situated in the Faculty of Media and Communication at Bournemouth University.

You will have demonstrable research experience working with social media or other online data and performing content analysis either quantitatively or qualitatively. You need to be self-motivated and able to work using your own initiative, as well as in a team comprised of both academic colleagues and external stakeholders. As this will be primarily a remote working post, you will need highly developed online communication skills and be able to work to rapid deadlines.

This post is available on a fixed term basis until 31 January 2022. This post is available part-time for 0.7 FTE.

You will be qualified to Doctoral level or be able to demonstrate the ability to create and disseminate knowledge at an equivalent level and the capability to convert this knowledge into a doctorate in a maximum of 3-5 years from date of appointment. You will be research active and committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.
