Are you a teacher in film practice with experience in teaching film 
production at higher education level? Do you have a strong understanding 
of the contemporary film industry, and a general knowledge of 
contemporary historical, critical and/or theoretical issues in Film Studies?

The School of Arts is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Film Practice on 
a part-time (0.6FTE) basis for a fixed term of one year. You will teach 
existing practice modules and contribute to the undergraduate and 
postgraduate Film curricula on modules such as Introduction to 
Filmmaking, Film Editing, Documentary Filmmaking, Genre Filmmaking, and 
Microbudget Filmmaking.

We are looking for an organised and inspiring teacher who is able to 
demonstrate considerable experience in filmmaking and technical skills 
in using a variety of cameras and editing programmes. In particular, you 
should possess the ability to teach Final Cut Pro (the Department’s 
editing software) to students. Professional experience of digital 
video/film production as an industry film professional, independent 
filmmaker or media content creator is also required.

As Lecturer in Film Practice you will:

    proactively contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching 
and supervision, including convening, designing and examining modules
    provide technical teaching and assistance to students across the 
undergraduate practice modules and at postgraduate level
    inspire and foster students’ creativity and personal development
    play an active role in all aspects of programme development and 
management and undertake administrative roles in the School

To be successful in this role you will have:

    a first degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area
    broad knowledge of film and an ability to communicate this 
effectively to students
    experience of teaching film production in higher education
    excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills

The School of Arts offers teaching programmes in the areas of Drama & 
Theatre, Film, History of Art and Media Studies. It is home to over 700 
students and 37 academic staff supported by administrative and technical 
staff within the Division of Arts & Humanities. The School is housed in 
the award-winning Jarman building, which provides a striking working 
environment and excellent facilities for staff and students including a 
144sqm white cube gallery, film production facilities, a media hub and 
fully-equipped drama studios.
