[Commlist] Open PhD Positions (Berlin/London/Krakow) in research project "Challenging Populist Truth-Making in Europe (CHAPTER): The Role of Museums in a Digital 'Post-Truth' European Society"

Thu Mar 12 17:47:37 GMT 2020

The research project "Challenging Populist Truth-Making in Europe (CHAPTER): The Role of Museums in a Digital 'Post-Truth' European Society" (funded by the VolkswagenStiftung), is recruiting three fully-funded research positions for PhD students (4 years). Coordinated by Christoph Bareither and Sharon Macdonald at the Centre for Anthropological Research on Museums and Heritage (CARMAH) at the Institute for European Ethnology / Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany), and in cooperation with the University College London (UK; PI Haidy Geismar) and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (Poland; PI Roma Sendyka), the project will develop approaches and best practice examples to support museums in challenging the growing influence of populist discourse in Europe through digital innovation. The first two positions at HU Berlin and UCL London are already open for applications: deadlines are April 8, 2020 (HU Berlin) and April 27, 2020 (UCL London); the position at JU Krakow will be advertised soon. We are looking forward to applications from excellent candidates with a background in cultural/media/digital anthropology, museum & heritage studies or comparable disciplines. Please note the different requirements for and profiles of the individual positions. All positions are especially suited for candidates who are interested in conducting a fully-funded PhD research with an emphasis on ethnographic methods and in co-developing innovative digital technologies as part of a highly international team.
