Tue Dec 22 17:58:49 GMT 2020
We would like to draw your attention to the publication of our new
edited volume with Edinburgh University Press:
Günther, Christoph and Pfeifer, Simone (ed.). (2020). Jihadi
Audiovisuality and its Entanglements: Meanings, Aesthetics,
Appropriations. Edinburgh: Edinburgh University Press.
Abstract and table of contents:
https://edinburghuniversitypress.com/book-jihadi-audiovisuality-and-its-entanglements.html
The volume explores the use of images, sounds and videos in Jihadi media
and how people engage with them. It presents empirically grounded
research, combined with historical, multi-modal, rhetorical,
ethnomusicological and digital audio-visual analysis and interpretations
Some of the 12 Chapters might be of particular interest to members of
this list as they present anthropological insights on ethical challenges
in these kind of research fields (e.g. by Martijn de Koning, Annelies
Moors and Aysha Navest) as well as on activist and artistic
appropriations of images, sounds and videos by groups like the so-called
Islamic State (Monika Salzbrunn; Simone Pfeifer, Larissa-Diana Fuhrmann,
Patricia Wevers).
