As a result of recent UKRI grant wins, Bangor University has two
part-time, temporary positions available at Bangor University, Wales.
Both have imminent start dates, but can be delivered without relocation.
*1.**A post-doc position in Data and Society. ***

Applications are invited for the above temporary part-time post working
in the Media Department at Bangor University, Wales. The post is
covering research leave within the department. Consequently the
successful candidate will deliver pre-validated and prepared modules.
Duties will include teaching in Media & Journalism. Modules will explore
the fast developing world of digital journalism, digital advertising and
digital media, together with their social, political and economic
drivers and impacts.
The post-holder will also contribute to the administrative and pastoral
functions of the School.
Candidates will have (or be on the verge of completing) a doctorate in a
related subject, and will already have an emerging national or
international profile as a scholar.
Candidates should have an awareness of working in a bilingual
environment/institution.
The successful candidate will be expected to commence 18^th January 2021.**

*Purpose of the job *

* To teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including
supervision of projects and students. Teaching can be carried out
on-line.
* To contribute to the academic management and administration of
programmes in Media & Journalism.
* To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and
postgraduate students.

*Main Duties and Responsibilities *
_Teaching duties will include: _
* Plan, prepare and deliver teaching and assessment in the domains of
media and journalism, responding effectively to a variety of student
backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.
* Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning, and provide
meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work;
* Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social,
economic and technological developments.
* Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
* Act as personal tutor to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate
students providing advice, guidance and support.
Specific duties can include:
* Maximising use of Blackboard Ultra (with lectures being delivered
on-line) and preparing for blended learning delivery.
* Designing the structure of on-line delivery e.g. how to deliver
workshops or seminars (i.e. live) events.
_Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include_:
* Contribute to the administration of taught programmes (e.g. managing
assessment processes and liaising with External Examiners)
* Contribute to the promotion and external profile of the School.
* Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as
directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and
task groups, addressing/supporting undergraduate and postgraduate
student experience, peer review of student research proposals,
contributing to community engagement)

* The post holder will be expected to participate in performance
review and developmental activities.
* The post holder will be expected to comply with the University’s

**Essential:
* PhD, or be close to completion, in a relevant subject area
Desirable:
* Higher education teaching qualification completed or near to
completion, or HEA fellowship.
*Experience/Knowledge *
Essential:
* Effective teaching capability in media and journalism at HE level.
* Be able to help students to develop their capacity at appropriate
levels
Desirable:
* Experience of module development and delivery in higher education
* Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects
*Skills/Abilities *
Essential:
* Ability to develop innovative and exciting approaches to teaching
* Ability to prioritise work load and work to deadlines
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative
* Excellent verbal and written skills
* Demonstrable IT Skills as required (e.g. VLE and other forms of
