Wed Feb 05 21:43:16 GMT 2020
*WARCnet — **Web ARChive studies network researching web domains and events*
Interested in studying national web domains or transnational events
using web archives? Then the WARCnet researcher network may be of
interest for you.
WARCnet, an acronym for ‘Web ARChive studies network researching web
domains and events’ offers transnational interdisciplinary networking
activities for researchers who study the archived web, and it reaches
out to web archivists and IT-developers. The networking activities are
guided by an overarching research question: How have (a) (trans)national
web domains, and (b) transnational events developed on the European
web?The network is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark, and
it started this January and will run until the end of 2021.
The main activities of the network will be four meetings and a
conference, the kickoff meeting to take place in Aarhus, Denmark 4-6 May
2020. Scholars who were not part of the application, but are interested
in the field may apply for a limited number of free seats for every
meeting, covering hotel and catering. All keynotes will bo open for
everyone, without applying (but registration is needed).
If you’re interested please have a look at the project website at
warcet.eu and on the registration website at
https://events.au.dk/warcnet04052020/home.htmlwhere you’ll also find a
guideline for applying for a free seat. Deadline is 26 Feb.
The program for the kickoff meeting will be finished during the coming
months, but we already have the two keynote speakers in place: Matt
Weber, Associate Professor in the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass
Communication at the University of Minnesota, and Ian Milligan, the
University of Waterloo.
In the same week as the kickoff meeting an associated event is organsed
by The Centre for Digital History at Aarhus University (CEDHAR). CEDHAR
will be organising a workshop about researcher use of the archived web,
7 May, 9:00-13:00. With presentation by Jane Winters and a hands-on
session by Ian Milligan. Sign up by emailing Helle Strandgaard
