There is a fantastic opportunity for a Post- Doctoral Research Associate to work on the EPSRC-funded project “Participatory Design and Open Data Platforms for a Data Commons in Scotland: case study – waste management”, based at the University of Stirling. It is a part-time appointment (Grade 7) in the field of Human Computer Interaction, within an interdisciplinary, applied communications/social sciences context.

The Post:

Applications are invited for a part-time Research Associate for the “Participatory Design and Open Data Platforms for a Data Commons in Scotland: case study - waste management” (Data Commons Scotland) project funded by the EPSRC (as part of the Digital Economy Investigator-led Projects scheme), in the Division of Communications, Media & Culture, University of Stirling. The post offers early career researchers the opportunity to lead and conduct research on the future of participatory design and data commons in Scotland. The project is led by Dr Greg Singh, Associate Professor in Media and Communications, University of Stirling, and the successful applicant will collaborate closely with the PI, the investigating team, the project partners and the contractors in terms of the project deliverables and high impact outputs.

Description of Duties:

·Lead on the HCI-design research strand of the project – working on solutions for end-users, and engaging with practitioners in participatory service design across Scotland (and by extension, the UK);

·Conduct Social Network Analysis and Use-Analytics research and apply findings to the process of prototyping mock-ups of end-users interfaces and using these mock-ups to conduct further iterations of co-design;

·Work with the investigating team, contractors and collaborators on the project, contributing to the front-end design and interface build (including UX/UI or data visualisation work);

·Conduct and publish original research within the remit of the project, including collaborative work with the PI and the investigating team;
