[Commlist] Research post for AHRC project Prosecuting Rap

Mon Nov 25 00:06:43 GMT 2019

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Research Associate to join the AHRC-funded project *‘Prosecuting Rap: Criminal Justice and UK Black Youth Expressive Culture.’* The post is for a 12-month period starting on 1 February 2020 [although flexible working applications will be considered].

You will be based in the Department of English & American Studies in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures, working with the project’s principal investigator, Dr Eithne Quinn, and be linked to the interdisciplinary Centre on Dynamics of Ethnicity (CoDE) in the School of Social Sciences.

You will have a doctoral degree (or equivalent) in cultural studies, sociology, critical criminology or a related discipline, a familiarity with black youth culture, and a personal commitment to race equality and social justice. Together with the principal investigator, you will coproduce scholarly articles, impact materials and public engagement activities that scrutinise how black youth expressive culture is used as evidence in criminal proceedings in contemporary Britain.

The University of Manchester is committed to building a culturally diverse institution where all staff and students can flourish and feel valued for their contribution and individuality. As black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) researchers are currently underrepresented, we would particularly welcome applications from BAME candidates. All appointments are made on merit. Closing date 9/12/19
