CRITICAL MEDIA PRACTICES at CU BOULDER HIRES TWO FULL TIME-FACULTY POSITIONS

The Department of Critical Media Practices at the University of Colorado Boulder offers a BA in Media Production, an MFA in Interdisciplinary Documentary Practices, and a PhD in Emergent Technologies and Media Art Practices. The department adopts a distinctive approach to the evolving landscape of creative media-making and the need to provide alternatives to conventional academic compartmentalization. In addition to working with faculty throughout the College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI), our campus collaborators include faculty from Anthropology, Art and Art History, English, Film Studies, Geography, Music, Atlas Institute and Theater and Dance. We are excited to be announcing two new full-time research faculty positions in our department.

SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE

The Scholar in Residence will have expertise in one or more of the following: performance media, immersive media, virtual reality / augmented reality / XR, technocultural studies,  computational art and/or digital art practices. The successful candidate will have historical and contemporary knowledge of critical theory pertaining to digital arts and demonstrative creative achievement in media arts practices.

REQUIREMENTS
MFA or PhD preferred in any of the following fields: performance media, immersive media, virtual reality / augmented reality / XR, technocultural studies, computational art and/or digital art practices

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
The Associate Professor will be an expert in one or more of the following: documentary media practices, sound practices, performance media practices, immersive media practices, media production, emergent technologies, or other related fields. This position will also contribute to our evolving undergraduate and PhD programs by providing leadership and a creative approach to pedagogy.

REQUIREMENTS
MFA or PhD preferred in any of the following fields: performance media, immersive media, virtual reality / augmented reality / XR, technocultural studies, computational art and/or digital art practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Course development and teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Providing leadership in undergraduate education, and serving on graduate thesis and
dissertation committees.
Providing service to the departments and campus.

REQUIREMENTS
Terminal degree (Ph.D. preferred), academic teaching and research experience.
A substantive record of scholarly and creative achievement.
Strong commitment to teaching.
The successful candidate will demonstrate historical and contemporary knowledge of critical theory pertaining to media practice, and a professional record of creative achievement in media
arts practices.
