[Commlist] CFP - News Coverage of US Elections

Wed Sep 11 22:18:08 GMT 2019

The “News Coverage of US Elections” workshop, convened by the Media & Democracy program<https://www.ssrc.org/programs/view/media-democracy/> at the Social Science Research Council<https://www.ssrc.org/>, will bring together social scientists and humanities scholars to present and receive feedback on their ongoing research that addresses how changes in media, technology, and politics are shaping the way elections are covered.

The workshop, organized under the direction of <https://commstudies.utexas.edu/faculty/natalie-jomini-stroud> Julia Azari<https://www.marquette.edu/political-science/directory/julia-azari.php> (Marquette University) and Michael Wagner<https://journalism.wisc.edu/staff/michael-wagner/> (University of Wisconsin-Madison), will be held at the Social Science Research Council in New York City on April 23-24, 2020. Accepted participants’ travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the organizers.

We welcome applications from both junior and senior scholars across all disciplines. However, the focused nature of the workshop demands that we limit participation to 10–12 authors. Thus, our selection will be determined, not only by the quality of submissions, but also by their thematic fit and complementarity. A selection of the papers presented at the workshop will be invited to submit full manuscripts to be considered for inclusion in a symposium on election coverage in an outlet for public scholarship.

To apply, please submit a current C.V., an abstract of up to 500 words, and a statement of up to 300 words on your interest in participating in the workshop to (mdapplications /at/ ssrc.org)<mailto:(mdapplications /at/ ssrc.org)> by November 4, 2019.
