POSITION

The School of Art and Design at San Diego State University (SDSU) seeks to appoint graphic design faculty, with a focus on interactive media, UX/UI, web and mobile platform design, and a commitment to the professional practice of graphic design for a tenure-track appointment as an assistant professor, to start August 2020.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Faculty responsibilities typically include eighteen contact hours per week. Candidates are required to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in graphic design, provide design and technological expertise, critical insight, and direct advanced undergraduate and graduate student research. Collaboration and coordination with part-time instructors is expected, as well as involvement in curriculum development. Faculty represent the School of Art and Design at community events, participate in service-oriented activities within the university community and the community-at-large, remain active in the profession and in appropriate professional organizations. Every faculty member is expected to assume a fair share of responsibility for non-classroom activities, in order to enhance the collegiality and effectiveness of the School, College, and University, and to promote the stature of SDSU in the community.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Hold a terminal degree in graphic design or other relevant advanced degrees.
    Current or recent college-level teaching experience.
Demonstrate expertise in design theory, history, and criticism, graphic design foundations, typography, print and screen based design.
    A high-profile record of research/creative accomplishment.
    A strong commitment to working with diverse student populations.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND INTERESTS

    A broad vision on innovative curricula development.
Experience incorporating interactive media, UX design, UI design, web design in the classroom. An understanding of the responsibility of a public university to encourage and to support freedom of expression and academic freedom.

SALARY AND RANK

Salary commensurate with experience.
