We have three openings for fully funded PhD positions at the University of Groningen. This would be a good opportunity for students who want to work with us at the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies. The Graduate School for the Humanities offers 3 PhD positions (for 4 years) in the Groningen Research Institute for the Study of Culture (ICOG). As a PhD candidate, you are committed to conducting independent and original scientific research, to report on this research in international publications and presentations, and to present the final results of the research in a PhD dissertation.

We are looking for talented and ambitious researchers in, among others, media and journalism studies.

Your qualifications are:
• a completed master's degree in one of the five areas mentioned above, with an excellent academic record (MA thesis grade: min. 8/10)
• proven research abilities and affinity with the research topic
• excellent command of English and good academic writing skills.

Do you meet our qualification criteria? If yes, your application should include: 1. A full CV demonstrating academic excellence, including publications and presentations (if applicable), and a copy of the data page of your passport. Furthermore a certified copy or scan of your MA diploma (or equivalent) and academic record (all this in just one file!) 2. The signed approval of your intended supervisor (via form: https://www.rug.nl/research/gradschool-humanities/phd-programme/phd-admission/form_intended_promotor_GSH_2019.pdf) 3. A cover letter introducing yourself, describing your motivation and suitability to conduct this particular research project, and locating your research within one of the research centres 4. A research proposal, focusing on the central research question to be addressed and the proposed method of approaching and answering this question (no more than (!) 1500 words, tables and references excluded, and a project title).
