[Commlist] Digital Diasporas: Interdisciplinary Perspectives Conference

Tue Apr 09 22:52:57 GMT 2019

*Digital Diasporas: Interdisciplinary Perspectives: 6/7 June 2019*

Funded as part of the translingual strand of the AHRC Open World Research Initiative ‘Cross-Language Dynamics: Reshaping Community’ project, and led by the Institute of Modern Languages Research and Digital Humanities at the School of Advanced Study, University of London.

This conference aims to inspire greater dialogue across disciplinary boundaries in order to develop a richer understanding of the role of the digital in creating and sustaining diasporic connections and communities, and of how diasporic groups and individuals transform and shape digital tools and technologies for their own creative and strategic purposes.

The programme includes a public lecture by Roopika Risam (Salem State University) 'Mobilizing New Digital Worlds: The Stakes of Postcolonial Digital Humanities’, in collaboration with Digital Humanities and OWRI Language Acts & Worldmaking at King’s College London.

Keynotes: Mirca Madianou (Goldsmiths) 'Technocolonialism: Digital humanitarianism as extraction' & Jannis Androutsopoulos (Universität Hamburg/Multiling, University of Oslo) 'Mediational repertoires and diasporic connectivity: from Senegal to Oslo and back again'.
