Vacancy: Professor for digital journalism at the University of Hamburg

The Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences invites applications for a

PROFESSORSHIP (W2) FOR  JOURNALISM AND COMMUNICATION STUDIES, WITH A FOCUS ON DIGITAL JOURNALISM

commencing as soon as possible.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to teach and conduct research in journalism and communication studies with a focus on developments, possibilities, and challenges in the field of digital journalism. Professorial responsibilities include participation in the Universität Hamburg digitalization strategy. Relevant research areas include new forms of journalistic investigation and presentation such as data journalism, investigative networks, cross- and multimedia formats, as well as new journalistic models of organization and financing and the impact of changed media usage patterns and intermediary platforms on journalism. The research should address practical challenges of digital journalism, whereas the teaching should focus on the practical relevance of journalism and communication research.

The successful candidate is desired to contribute to the profile initiative Labor and Social Change.

Requirements:  Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in Section 15 HmbHG.

Additional criteria:  Applicants are expected to have an international research profile with a track record of English language publications, in leading journals of communication and journalism studies. Applicants are expected to have a successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects. The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching. Advanced knowledge of and interest in the development of digital methods (e.g., automated content analysis, web ethnography, network analysis) are very desirable. Experience in journalism and applied journalism and media research as well as cooperation with media partners is advantageous.
