[Commlist] Media Discourse Centre: De Montfort University PhD Scholarships, 2019

The *Media Discourse Centre* at De Montfort University

invites prospective PhD students to apply for a De Montfort University 
(DMU) *PhD Scholarship *(see '_How to Apply_', below).

from full scholarships (UK and EU only, with a stipend of £15,009 per 
annum) to fee waiver awards (which include overseas applicants).

The Media Discourse Centre, known for its critical, interdisciplinary 
research on global media formations and practices, welcomes applications 
from students who wish to pursue enquiries that reflect the 
*University's headline topics* ('urban living, lifelong well-being, 
creativity in the digital age, social value') and/or which engage with 
the *UN's Sustainable Development Goals* (found here: 
https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/)

(Examples of recent MDC initiatives: 'Degradation: profiting 
from environmental catastrophe' (27.2.19), which enraged with UN 
Sustainable Development Goal 13, and the forthcoming conference (held 
in Jakarta in April and the UK in September 2019) which focusses on the 
material/discursive composition of the concept of 
environmental sustainability (and which also covers 1, 8, and 11 in the 
UN's list). Other fields of enquiry include (in partnership with 
Leicester Media Productions and the Documentary Media Centre) work on 
creative, practical and reflexive film-making, Investigative Journalism 
with Channel Four (see MDC's new edited book:

and the Media and Health section, led by Jason Lee).

i) Applicant’s name, address, email, educational qualifications and 
relevant work experience.
ii) Details of the proposed research project and how it maps onto the 
areas outlined above (maximum 500 words).
(Include: - an overview of project, supported by a central research 
question and a clear statement of research methodology).
iii) Name (with addresses and emails) of two academic referees.
iv) Name of potential supervisor within MDC (please indicate if contact 
has been made).

Once approved by a potential supervisor, candidates should submit final
