EDEN invites postgraduate and early doctoral researchers to explore the theme “Between a Rock and a Robot”. This interdisciplinary conference provides an exciting opportunity for postgraduates across the humanities to share their unique responses to this topic. In bringing together a diverse selection of academic fields and perspectives, the conference will offer a unique space to disseminate and discuss ideas. We welcome submissions from those studying in the island of Ireland and those from further afield working within the Irish context.

The past couple years have seen increasing ecological and technological challenges. The reality of Global Warming is becoming increasingly impossible to ignore, with extreme weather escalating and its resulting impact on Earth’s landscape increasing. However, technological advances have also provided us with opportunities to minimize our impact on the physical world, while simultaneously removing us further from it. This dichotomy provides the perfect opportunity to explore the connection between humanity, the physical environment and technology changes this interaction. The ‘Between a Rock and a Robot: Humans, Habitat, and Technology’ theme invites a broad interpretation of the relationships between people, technology, and the physical environment; allowing for scholarship addressing topics related to politics, identity, language, human rights, geography, drama, film, literature and law. The conference welcomes submissions for academic papers, short performance pieces, and practice-based explorations.

*Proposals for papers (20 minutes) are now welcome on any new research by postgraduate researchers on topics including (but not limited to):*

ØPhysical or psychological boundaries

ØLandscape and change

ØWriting the physical environment

ØUrban/rural divides

ØEthnicity and identity

ØLanguage and Landscape

ØPhysical environments and social identity

ØTradition and modernity

ØMobility, migration

ØTechnology and the environment

*Abstracts of 250 words and short biographies (approx 100 words) can be submitted to:*(eden.nuigalway /at/ gmail.com) <mailto:(eden.nuigalway /at/ gmail.com)>. /Note: All technical requirements should be communicated to the conference committee with the abstract submission./

The call for papers will close on *Monday March 11th, 2019*. For any questions or more information on EDEN, please email us at (eden.nuigalway /at/ gmail.com) <mailto:(eden.nuigalway /at/ gmail.com)>
