The Department of Sociology, University of Limerick, Ireland will offer a Summer School in Social Science Research Methods in May 2019.  The School provides training in quantitative, qualitative and mixed research methods in two parallel streams, at a level appropriate to PhD level research. It optionally offers 10 ECTS credits subject to assessment.

The program runs from Monday May 20^th to Friday May 31^st 2019

·The qualitative stream covers topics such as the philosophical foundations of qualitative research, discourse analysis, ethnographic techniques, interviewing and focus group approaches, strategies for the analysis of qualitative data, and ethical issues in qualitative research

·The quantitative stream involves begins with an overview of the logic and practice of statistics, statistical inference and the Stata software.  It then proceeds to cover measures of association, regression approaches, and extension of the latter for categorical and limited dependent variables.

·The mixed methods track allows researchers to select topics of their choice from both the qualitative and quantitative streams.
