Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University—Humanities and Social Sciences PhD Opportunities Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a research-led international University, jointly founded by Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. The University is now offering 5 PhD scholarships at our Humanities and Social Sciences cluster, and we welcome applications from high calibre candidates interested in pursuing a research degree in the areas listed below: China Studies, English, Media, Film and TV arts, Leadership and Education Advanced Development, International Relations.

Details of Research areas:
China Studies: Chinese society, Chinese politics and economy, Chinese history, literature and culture.
English: Linguistics, Literature, Translation and interpreting studies
Media, Film and TV arts: Digital/New media, Film, television and visual culture, Journalism, Media and Communication, Media and Culture. Leadership and Education Advanced Development: Relationship between language and identity in EMIs, English as a Lingua Franca, Academic literacies, Processes of academic socialization in TNE environments, Writing interpreting, Managerial practices in transnational education, Adult learning and professional development for teachers, Organizational change, Cross-cultural communication, Education leadership in transnational context, Expatriate/international (students & families), enrolment and retention (& graduation), Internationalization of higher education, Action research in higher education contexts, Motivation and education, Second language acquisition, Written corrective feedback, Task-based language teaching and learning, First and second language academic writing. International Relations: China’s international relations including security, foreign policy and economics; the foreign policies and international relations of states and regional organizations in Africa, the Americas, the Asia-Pacific, and the European Union; international and global political economy; peace and state-building; critical security studies; post-structural approaches to IR; development studies; international communication; propaganda studies; political ideology; soft power studies; Cold War international history; intelligence studies; ethnic minorities. Requirements: We accept a wide variety of academic qualifications for entry onto our PhD programme. The typical minimum entry requirement is a UK undergraduate (bachelors) degree with honours at a first or upper second class level in an appropriate field of study. Equivalent overseas degrees are also accepted. Applicants whose first language is not English or have not studied at degree level in English are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English.

PhD programme and Degree
PhD programmes at the XJTLU are composed of 3 years research and submission is expected within 3 years for full-time students. PhD supervision is undertaken jointly by academics from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University China(XJTLU) and University of Liverpool (UoL). Upon successful completion, students will be awarded University of Liverpool PhD degree.
Funding
The PhD scholarships cover:
•	Tuition fee (RMB 80,000 per year) for up to three years
•	Monthly stipend (RMB 5,000) for up to three years
•	Medical insurance with designated providers
It also provides up to RMB 16,500 to allow participation at international conferences during the period of the award. It is a condition of the award that holders of XJTLU PhD scholarships carry out 300-500 hours of teaching assistance work per year. The scholarship holder is expected to carry out the major part of his or her research at XJTLU in Suzhou, China. However, he or she is eligible for a research study visit to the University of Liverpool for up to three months.

•	CV •	Two reference letters with company/university letterhead
• Personal statement outlining your interest in the position • Proof of English language proficiency (an IELTS score of 6.5 or above) • Verified school transcripts in both Chinese and English (for international students, only the English version is required) • Verified certificates of education qualifications in both Chinese and English (for international students, only the English version is required) • A Research Proposal in English, with minimum of 1,000 words and needs to be fully referenced. The proposal should include a research proposal title and a description of the research project. • PDF copy of Master Degree dissertation (or an equivalent writing sample) and examiners reports available.
