Special Edition of Journal of Language and Politics (JLP)

The Journal of Language and Politics examines politics within traditional areas of studies such as political speeches, political broadcasts, political campaign advertisements, news reporting and government statements, as well as in popular culture such as memes and television programmes. This special issue I am editing is concerned with the role of musical sounds in expressions of politics in both traditional political contexts such as anthems and party political broadcasts, as well as less traditional political contexts including popular music songs, promotional videos and live performances. There is considerable debate amongst music scholars as to what exactly are relations between music and politics. This edition aims to contribute to this debate by examining these relations from a wide range of perspectives which focus on the roles music plays when articulating politics.

The issue is provisionally booked for mid-2019 (paper version). To achieve this deadline, I need drafts of articles by the end of August 2018, so that final papers can be finished by the end of December 2018 for online publishing. Throughout this process, papers may be rejected for quality reasons.
The papers should be a maximum of 8000 words all inclusive.

If you are interested, please send me a 200 word proposal/ abstract no later than 28 May.
