Job Description

£43,219 - £50,949 per annum inclusive of London Allowance
Please note that successful candidates who have not yet completed their PhD will be appointed on Grade 7 (£35,775 - £42,060 per annum inclusive of London Allowance), and regraded to Grade 8 on successful completion of their PhD.

Full-time (35 hours per week – 1 FTE)

This post is fixed-term for two years since the appointment begins.

The role and its responsibilities


SOAS is seeking to appoint as Lecturer a research-active scholar who will contribute to the Centre for Global Media and Communication’s teaching and research in Global Digital Media and Cultures. The appointee will be expected to convene or co-convene, teach and examine in these fields and also contribute to the teaching of core subjects in global media and communications. The ability to teach Global Media in non-Western contexts is an advantage. The appointee will have research interests that complement existing strengths in CGMC and a demonstrable interest in digital cultures in Asia, Africa or the Middle East. The role also involves administration.

Skills and experience

The ideal appointee will have teaching experience in higher education, a strong research record, and administrative experience and skills. All applicants must have a PhD in Media, Communication or Digital Studies or a relevant allied subject. Those who are close to completing a PhD will also be considered. In addition, all applicants should have a strong research record and a solid journal article of renowned international standards and a record of research activity in the field.

The Centre for Global Media and Communication at SOAS focuses on the study of non-western media and communication, political communication, international journalisms and digital cultures.
