The Department of Humanities and Creative Writing at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is seeking a senior academic who has had a successful record in the field of creative media theory and/or practice within the broad framework of cultural studies. Scholars with a substantial research track record in developing innovative qualitative approaches to creative media as artistic, humanistic, and critical social practice, are welcome to apply.


At HKBU, we are launching a new and robust interdisciplinary research cluster in creative media/practice. In the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing, we envision this appointment be made to someone who can help to lead this path. In order to compliment this new strategic research development in creative media/practice, the appointee's work should include at least two of the following areas: screen/sound culture, creative writing for public culture, gender/sexuality/media, race/ethnicity/media, ecology/media, media ethnography, postcolonial media studies, historical approaches to the above.


He/She should be able to teach a range of courses, including both core and electives courses, in the Department's undergraduate Humanities and/or Creative Writing programmes, and our graduate seminars.


The appointee is also expected to be an active member in Department and Faculty-level activities including (but not limited to) work in the areas of curriculum design, undergraduate and postgraduate student mentoring, quality assurance, and supervision of undergraduate honours projects and postgraduate research. He/She will be expected to recruit and supervise top-quality, international PhD candidates in support of the Department's effort to internationaliseour research postgraduate studies programme.


Applicants should possess a PhD degree in fields conversant with creative media and cultural studies. They should be proven researchers of impact with a successful track record in their own research specialisation, in acquiring publicly funded grants, in developing international linkages, and in service to the global profession. They should also possess a strong and active research programme, as well as a demonstrated interest in collaborative work in the cross-cultural context. A commitment to working in a multilingual and cross-cultural setting, as well as in leading a cluster of fellow researchers in creative media/practice within HKBU, is essential.


Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three years commencing September 2018. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
