The Department of Media Studies is one of the pre-eminent sites for the
study of media, culture, communication and politics in the global south
and maintains an impressive level of research activity alongside a
constantly evolving teaching programme. Departmental culture is diverse,
inclusive and non-hierarchical. The department offers an undergraduate
major, as well as Honours, MA and PhD degrees.

The Department is seeking two exceptional emerging scholars to join us
at Lecturer and/or Associate Lecturer level to start in 2018.

_Responsibilities:_Successful appointees will be expected to contribute
to teaching at all levels, from undergraduate to Honours, both in Media
Studies and in related fields housed in the School of Literature,
Language and Media (SLLM); to supervise at all levels of postgraduate
study; and to contribute to the intellectual life and administrative
requirements of the department. They will be supported to develop a
research profile that leads to national and international recognition
and will be expected to produce research outputs commensurate with the
University’s standards.
As an interdisciplinary department we are interested in applicants who
specialise in areas including, but not limited to, political economy,
African politics, media policy, queer theory, decolonial theory and
visual culture. In line with the department’s transformation policy,
black South Africans are particularly encouraged to apply.
