Communication studies is a social science with a diversity of research methods. Its core is the indirect public communication, transmitted by mass media. The Department of Communication of the University of Vienna, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, announces three vacant prae doc positions within the Media Governance, Media Industries, Media Organisation Research Lab (chair: Prof. Katharine Sarikakis).

*Extent of Employment:* 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement <http://personalwesen.univie.ac.at/kollektivvertrag/mitarbeiterinnengruppen/>: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

*Job Description: *
Participation in research, teaching and administration:
- Participation in research projects
- Research assistantship to the Chair and the Media Governance Research Lab
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
- Project application for (external) funding
- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months - Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Contribution to organisation of conferences, meetings, symposiums
- Participation in administration of the department

- Support and participation in Third Mission activities of the LAB


*Profile:*
- Postgraduate degree (MA, MSc or equivalent study) in communication studies and/or cognate discipline - Core Interest in Media Governance issues, such as privacy and democracy, internet governance and rights, policy, regulation, legal aspects. Particular interest in Gender and Media and Communication Policy
- Strong research method skills
- Didactic competence
- Interest in and ability to maintain and cater for web based content as a matter of making research available to the public
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English, good command of written and spoken German
- High Computer literacy
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to time self-management

-Knowledge of the "University's Third Mission" concept

Desirable qualifications are
- Teaching experience
- Knowledge of university processes and structures advantageous
