[ecrea] Post-Doc Vacancy: Investigating Mediated Sex and Young Peoples¹ Health and Well-Being
Sat Sep 09 07:32:38 GMT 2017
University of Sunderland is looking for a *Post-Doctoral Research
Assistant* (fixed term) for the project: *Investigating Mediated Sex and
Young Peoples’ Health and Well-Being*.
We’re looking for someone to assist in a Wellcome Trust Funded Seed
Project investigating the relationships between pornography and sexual
health in order to understand what kinds of educational interventions
might be most useful to young people. Pornography is often portrayed as
a public health issue, increasingly focused on wellbeing and ‘healthy’
relationships, and this project is particularly interested in the ways
media have become central to those worries at the same time as they have
become integral to experiences, identities and lifestyles.
*About the role*
The role will be very varied as well as challenging and rewarding,
supporting the lead investigators Professor Clarissa Smith and Professor
Feona Attwood while also supporting the development of an international
network of scholars, sexual health educators and youth workers and
related research activities.
To play an integral part in the development of the project we’re looking
for someone with the skills and abilities to carry out a number of
vital roles, including managing events; researching potential speakers;
liaising with network participants; preparing briefs and announcements
and designing and managing project databases e.g. network and respondent
information, research resources and news items.
We’re looking for someone with doctoral level experience in the
Humanities or Social Science fields but with familiarity with critical
sexuality studies and their intersections with health and education.
Experience of conducting in-depth interviews and analysis of interview
transcripts will be crucial and we’d also like to see a track record of
developing peer-reviewed published work. The ideal candidate will be a
team player with a ‘can do’ attitude to support the project and with
excellent IT skills - handling spreadsheets and quantitative data and
familiarity with a range of data packages, particularly SPSS or NVivo.
Experience in public health would be very desirable, as would experience
in working with young people.
This is a full time post for nine months starting as soon as possible;
it will be possible to work remotely. Full details of the role are
available at https://jobs.sunderland.ac.uk/vacancy.aspx?ref=0170-17 and
applicants should complete the online application form via that portal
and upload a CV of no more than two sides of A4, two referees (inc most
recent employer), and a cover letter which specifically addresses the
points in the role profile. Informal enquiries can be addressed to
(clarissa.smith /at/ sunderland.ac.uk)
Closing date for applications is Friday 29 September 2017 at 4pm.
Interviews to be held in the week commencing 9th October 2017.
