*1st Call for Chapters & Contributions to *

*/The Radical Film Handbook: Organisation, Activism and the Moving Image/***

*(edited by Steve Presence, Mike Wayne, Jack Newsinger)*

The Radical Film Network (http://radicalfilmnetwork.com/ <http://radicalfilmnetwork.com/>) was set-up in London in 2013 to support the growth and sustainability of politically-engaged film culture around the world. Since then the RFN has grown rapidly, and now consists of more than one hundred organisations across four continents, from artists’ studios and production collectives to archives, distributors and film festivals.

/The Radical Film Handbook/ will combine contributions from organisations involved in the network with those of leading academics, writers and activists in the field in order to provide readers with an authoritative guide to the critical issues facing contemporary global radical film culture. The editors are calling for chapters and contributions to the book. Topics of interest may include but are not limited to:

·histories of radical film cultures in different countries or regions;

·new approaches to production, distribution and exhibition;

·the impact of digitalisation on radical film practices;

·organisational issues, issues of sustainability, policy issues;

·key filmmakers, groups or movements;

·definitions of ‘radical’ in relation to filmmaking (e.g. aesthetic, political, ethical questions);

·radical film and its relationship with organisations in civil society;

·personal accounts of radical film practice.

If you would like to contribute to the book, please email a short (no more than 500 words) summary or abstract of your proposed contribution AND a one page CV summary or short bio to (jack.newsinger /at/ nottingham.ac.uk) <mailto:(jack.newsinger /at/ nottingham.ac.uk)> by *28^th February 2017*.

We are happy to discuss ideas. We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Steve Presence, Mike Wayne and Jack Newsinger.
