The Media Action Research Group (MARG) is organizing a summer gathering
called the Media Action Research Conference in Orillia, Ontario from May
12-15, 2016. The conference will bring together experienced and aspiring
media activists with alternative and community media researchers to
share skills, projects, research and ideas to support and help grow
media activism. We are open to any form of activist media including
zines, graffiti art, podcasting, theatre and dance. We are open to any
form of workshop and presentation, including traditional academic
presentations, and would encourage participatory formats. This is a
gathering for those engaged in or committed to grassroots and
transformative activist media and research (anti-authoritarian,
anti-capitalist, pro-feminist, anti-racist, and more). This conference
is hosted by Lakehead University made possible through funding from SSHRC.
*Are you an alternative media artist, citizen journalist, radio
producer, video activist, documentarian, media researcher or theorist?
Please consider proposing a workshop or panel for the conference.*
We are looking for a diversity of presentations, workshops, skill-shares
and activities that will engage both new and experienced media-makers,
grassroots activists and academics who are researcher-activists. This
includes:
*Media Making and Skill Sharing* - workshops or hands-on skill shares in
writing, radio, video, zines, publishing, print, web, tech activism, and
more.
*Research Dialogues and Workshops *- have some interesting research on
the challenges and successes of alternative media and media activism?
Please share in a participatory format.

All accepted presenters will be given an honorarium, and will be
eligible to apply for a travel subsidy to attend the conference. Food
will be provided throughout the weekend. Accommodations are available on
campus in the residence, at local hotels or camping at nearby Bass Lake
Provincial Park. Childcare will be available. This is an accessible event.
