Call for Papers
Le financement participatif dans les industries culturelles : enjeux et
perspectives
(Crowdfunding in cultural industries: issues and perspectives)
April 13th, 2015, in Paris, France
Informations: www.crowdfunding2015.wordpress.com
Context
Over the past few years, crowdfunding has been presented as an
innovating alternative to classical forms of
funding in cultural industries. Crowdfunding allows project owners
(artists, musicians, film makers…) and their
fan base to develop a direct economic relationship. In this model,
contributors play a triple role: they are investors,
potential consumers and promoters.
Recent academic debates emerge from various fields, such as economy,
sociology or media and communication studies.
These works have focused on the motivation of contributors, factors of
success, and to some aspects in the logics in the communication and the
cultural industries.
Axis of research
Papers may explore different dimensions on crowdfunding. What does it
means “to raise money / fund”?
What are the skills required to succeed? To what extend can we call the
activity of the project leader a work?
On the contributors’ side, how the decision to contribute is taken? What
social relationships may influence the decisions?
Who are the actors participating in the decision making of allocating
financing resources?
Moreover, how may crowdfunding modify the value chain in the artistic
production? Can these potential changes
redistribute the uncertainty toward other actors? To what extend
crowdfunding may contribute to offer more visibility
to artists on the margins of cultural industries?
Topics may include, but are not limited to, the following axis:
1) The funding activity in the DIY production
2) The investment regarding social activity and relationship
3) The articulations between actors in crowdfunding, the cultural and
the financial industry
4) Crowdfunding market structure
5) Crowdfunding and cultural diversity
