We are seeking to recruit a Research Associate to be part of the 
Productive Margins: Regulating for Engagement research programme which 
is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). This is an 
innovative new collaborative project between academics across 
disciplines in Cardiff and Bristol universities and community 
organisations in the South Wales valleys and Bristol. The researcher 
will be working in one of two research projects which will form a 
collective learning platform for five further projects which will be 
co-produced by the academic and community partners.

Using a qualitative Geographical Information System (GIS) platform that 
has previously been employed to map perceptions of crime and safety in a 
number of areas across the UK, this project will develop its use amongst 
young people in a south Wales valleys’ neighbourhood to map their own 
experiences, perceptions and concerns.

The post-holder will support the young people in developing and using 
the App based device and will also be expected to use creative methods, 
possibly with local performing and/or visual artists, as a means of 
facilitating involvement in the research, encouraging alternative modes 
of expression and generating data. In addition community organising 
principles will be used to develop leadership skills in young people and 
to develop a mechanism for articulating and delivering change locally.

This fixed term, part time post is for 28 hours per week for a period of 
15 months from the 6th January 2014 to 31st March 2015.

Salary: £30,424 - £36,298 pro-rata (Grade 6).
